José María Maravall Herrero is a Spanish sociologist and politician who served as Minister of Education and Science from 1982 to 1988. His ministry advanced the 1983 University Reform Law and the 1985 law regulating the right to education. He has taught political sociology and directed the Centre for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences at the Juan March Institute.
