Ilo Ilo (2013)

Singapore in the 1997 financial crisis is experienced through a household whose domestic order depends on a Filipina worker. Anthony Chen makes school journeys, work and the allocation of private space expose relationships that politeness cannot settle. The city is present in economic pressure as much as its exterior views. Choose it for the intimacy of that scale, rather than an expansive tour of Singapore.
