The Sopranos (1999)

Tony Soprano's therapy sessions make the familiar gangster story strange again: being able to name a feeling does not mean somebody will change. Domestic irritation and criminal brutality sit disquietingly close together. Despite its late-1990s beginnings, its insight into self-justification remains immediate. Watch for the family conversations as closely as the business disputes.
