The Killing (2007)

The 2007 Danish original gives an investigation enough room to affect a bereaved family and the politics around it. Sarah Lund's persistence rewards watching who supplies a convenient explanation and what remains unaccounted for. The long opening case requires patience and includes deliberate misdirection. Its attraction is the pressure applied to competing versions of events, not a rapid procession of unrelated crimes.
