Looking becomes an attempt to control another person. Hitchcock's colour, camera movement and repeated locations pull us into an obsession while leaving its cruelty exposed. The mystery is only one attraction: the more troubling achievement is how the film makes an alluring image and a destructive fantasy feel inseparable.
