The Wire (2002)

Each season widens your understanding of Baltimore rather than merely supplying another case. Police, labour, politics, schools and journalism become connected systems whose incentives outlast any individual. The fifth season's central device is more strained, but the accumulated portrait remains the reason to commit. Earlier characters and decisions keep mattering after the camera moves elsewhere.
