Only Yesterday (1991)

A return to childhood memories becomes an adult reconsideration of work, family and possible ways of living. Isao Takahata lets small embarrassments and apparently modest choices carry lasting weight. The animation's shifts in texture make memory visible, offering a quieter and unusually reflective 1991 experience.
