Trying (2020)

Nikki and Jason begin with the hope of adoption, then have to build relationships with children whose needs do not neatly follow the adults' plans. Esther Smith and Rafe Spall give the comedy an appealing warmth. It is a hopeful choice about learning to become a family, with uncertainty continuing after the initial process is over.
