Manthan (1976)

The effort to establish a dairy cooperative becomes a tense drama about caste, trust and collective action. Shyam Benegal lets competing interests remain visible instead of turning the village into a simple symbol. Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah make the political disagreements feel lived.
