Two Acres of Land (1953)

Bimal Roy connects a farmer's threatened land to the punishing economics of the city. Balraj Sahni's physical performance makes labour feel exhausting rather than picturesque. Its social argument emerges through a family's worsening choices, not simply through speeches about poverty.
