A procedure for deleting a former partner turns the break-up film into an unstable maze of memory. The collapsing spaces are entertaining in their own right, but they also expose how a person can edit a relationship into either a grievance or an ideal. Jim Carrey's inwardness and Kate Winslet's restless energy leave room for incompatibility as well as affection. Try it if a difficult question about love interests you more than proof that a couple belongs together.
