Starting a band to impress a girl is hardly a mature life plan, and this Dublin teenager's first steps are enjoyably ridiculous. The pleasure comes from watching the project grow into friendships, a musical identity and a possible escape from a miserable school and strained home. Raphina has vulnerabilities beneath the glamorous image he first projects onto her. It is a buoyant pop fantasy, with a lovely brotherly relationship helping to give the romance perspective.
