The Royle Family (1998)

The Manchester family's sofa, meals and television habits are enough to sustain a whole comic world. Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash let money worries and unequal domestic labour emerge through what gets said while everybody is apparently doing very little. Its affection never requires the family to become more respectable before they deserve attention.
