True Blood (2008)

Synthetic blood makes public coexistence seem possible without removing appetite, hierarchy or old habits. The Louisiana setting gives its erotic melodrama a lively social world. The expanding supernatural mythology becomes increasingly uneven, but the initial collision between ancient privilege and a modern rights movement remains an engaging provocation.
