An ancient vampire family's promise of loyalty has had centuries to harden into obligation, possession and grievance. New Orleans provides an appropriately theatrical stage. Familiarity with The Vampire Diaries helps, but the stronger attraction is the possibility that living longer can make a family less capable of letting anyone change.
