Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)

The Motion Picture has the grandeur of an encounter with the unknown; Khan makes a starship feel like a place where ageing friends might lose one another. Ricardo Montalbán gives the conflict a fiercely personal focus, and the ship-to-ship tactics let decisions carry suspense. Familiarity with the television episode Space Seed adds context, but the film explains the essential grievance. The emotional intimacy wins over sheer scale.
