Goodness Gracious Me (1998)

Recurring sketches catch the competitive pride, conversational habits and generation gaps that a conventional family sitcom might stretch over a whole episode. Meera Syal, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Nina Wadia and Kulvinder Ghir turn the point of view around with real comic confidence. Treat this older touchstone as a collection of sharply chosen exaggerations, with cultural specificity supplying the joke rather than requiring an explanatory speech.
