Dil Se.. (1998)

Mani Ratnam lets romantic obsession collide with a political conflict that refuses to stay in the background. The visual and musical invention is remarkable, while the central pursuit can be deeply uncomfortable. That pressure makes it a film to discuss rather than a romance to endorse uncritically.
