Death Note (2006)

A student finds a notebook that can kill, then meets an investigator determined to expose him. The rules make their contest easy to grasp and hard to stop watching. Start here for a dark battle of reasoning, with an uneven later stretch rather than an expectation that every turn is equally elegant.
