Cowboy Bebop (1998)

Bounty hunters chase badly needed paydays while their pasts gradually intrude on life aboard a small ship. The episodic structure, music and film influences make this older classic easy to sample. Its detached surface hides considerable melancholy, so start for the atmosphere and stay if the crew begin to matter.
