The series begins with a couple's desire to become parents, then follows adoption into the work of becoming a household. Their warmth does not mean they instantly know how to respond to children with histories of their own. Fertility difficulties and loss make parts painful. Choose it for care as a developing relationship rather than a final reward conferred when adults want a family enough.
