Midnight Diner (2009)

The original 2009 Japanese series gathers late-night customers around a tiny restaurant and a cook willing to make the dish somebody needs. Food opens a conversation rather than providing a competitive spectacle. The short, self-contained stories make it easy to watch one evening at a time, although some customers bring painful histories through the door.
