The King's Speech (2010)
Movie

Best Picture, 2011 ceremony.
Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush make the sessions between a reluctant monarch and his speech therapist companionable, prickly and often funny. Those exchanges are the reason to return. For this viewer, the ceremonial build towards the broadcast increasingly outweighs them: scenes announce the importance of speaking successfully when the quieter struggle has already made it clear. A satisfying first crescendo leaves less emotional space to explore the next time.

About The King's Speech
The King's Speech tells the story of the man who became King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II. After his brother abdicates, George ('Bertie') reluctantly assumes the throne. Plagued by a dreaded stutter and considered unfit to be king, Bertie engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue. Through a set of unexpected techniques, and as a result of an unlikely friendship, Bertie is able to find his voice and boldly lead the country into war.
