Matilda's music, attraction and plans for adulthood sit within a family suddenly improvising care after a death. Her autism is part of the negotiations, not the only reason she is there. The comedy allows awkward conversations about consent and independence rather than wrapping them in reassurance. Its short cancelled run leaves some futures open.
