Derry Girls (2018)

The friends' certainty that a minor school problem is the most important event in Northern Ireland gives the comedy its wonderfully teenage scale. Political conflict remains present, yet ordinary vanity and panic keep interrupting. The period setting works because noisy friendship is allowed to matter inside history rather than standing politely beside it.
