PEN15 (2019)

Adult performers play thirteen-year-olds among young actors, making American middle-school humiliation look as disproportionate as it felt. The year-2000 setting supplies detail, but the real draw is friendship at its most possessive and exposing. Accept the visual joke and it becomes painfully precise adult comedy about childhood.
