The Killing (2007)

Denmark, in Danish. The original Forbrydelsen makes one murder reverberate through a family, a police investigation and municipal politics. Its patient structure lets competing responsibilities acquire weight. Choose it for that sustained civic picture and Sarah Lund's absorbing persistence, allowing a long serial commitment rather than expecting a case neatly settled each week.
