The Others (2001)
Movie
Released
Locked doors and drawn curtains make this haunted-house story tense before anything crosses a room. Grace is protecting two children who cannot tolerate strong light, so opening up the house is itself a risk. Nicole Kidman's clipped authority makes every household rule feel brittle. There are several sharp shocks, but the lasting fear comes from hearing ordinary domestic activity where nobody should be.
