Twin Peaks (1990)

Start with the 1990 opening: a murder mystery slowly reveals a town where grief, gossip and absurdity occupy the same diner. Cooper's attention to coffee and small courtesies makes the strangeness inviting. The second season wanders, and the violence beneath the eccentricity is serious.
