The X-Files (1993)

Mulder and Scully make belief and scepticism into an enjoyable working relationship, not just opposing opinions. The 1993 series is easiest to enter through standalone investigations, where a strange premise has room to become funny, frightening or sad. The conspiracy story grows tangled. Early monster-of-the-week episodes offer a clearer pleasure than trying to master every later explanation.
