The Return (2003)

A father's sudden return gives two brothers a journey full of instructions but few explanations. Andrey Zvyagintsev makes the cold landscape and the boys' different responses to authority carry the suspense. The controlled images invite attention to small gestures; the central relationship remains deliberately difficult to settle.
