Dark (2017)

The German series treats its interlocking families and times with impressive seriousness. Keeping track of the connections becomes a substantial share of the work, and I find that effort crowds out my attachment to individual people. This is a preference about how a mystery occupies attention, not a complaint that it has subtitles. A viewer who enjoys mapping relationships may have the opposite response.
