The Handmaid's Tale (2017)

Elisabeth Moss gives the resistance inside an apparently obedient face real force. The repeated exposure to coercion and sexual violence makes sustained viewing too punishing for my taste. The political stakes are clear; returning to that atmosphere is the obstacle. If an unrelenting account of domination sharpens your attention rather than exhausting it, the experience may work differently.
