Wilbur Wright

Wilbur worked with Orville in printing and bicycle-making before the brothers developed their aircraft. When the Wright Company was formed with outside backers in 1909, he became its first president. The contrast is instructive: invention led to demonstrations, manufacturing contracts and patent disputes, responsibilities that demanded more than the workshop skills behind the breakthrough.
