The Vast of Night (2019)

An unfamiliar signal interrupts the routines of a switchboard operator and a radio presenter in 1950s New Mexico. Telephone voices then describe events the film resists illustrating, at times letting the screen fall almost entirely dark. Johnny Marshall and the sound team help turn listening into an investigation shared by the characters and audience. Its appeal is the intimacy of a story entering your ear while an ordinary small town becomes much larger and stranger.
