Handmade on the Silk Road (2016)
TV Show
First aired
Follow a working day rather than a whistle-stop journey along the route. A Chinese silk weaver, an Uzbek woodcarver and an Iranian potter make repetition and family conversation part of the pleasure. These are edited portraits, with people speaking about their work, rather than a mute camera left running. The woodcarving film makes small changes to one pillar unusually satisfying to notice.
