Nurse Jackie (2009)

Jackie can be exceptionally attentive to a patient while being dangerously unreliable elsewhere. Edie Falco makes that contradiction difficult to dismiss, and her relationships with nurses and other colleagues supply much of the black comedy. Addiction is a driving story, with substantial harm attached. The attraction is an ethically messy nurse at the centre, rather than an idealised representative of the profession.
