Dave Johns

Dave Johns brings a practical worker's sense of fairness to I, Daniel Blake (2016). Daniel's difficulty navigating benefits bureaucracy is grounded in tasks, questions and frustrating conversations rather than an abstract argument. Johns keeps humour and a desire to be useful present alongside the anger, making the character more than an emblem of hardship. Photo: Andrew Jackson.
