Deutschland (2015)

Start with the 1983-set opening of this German cycle, originally released as Deutschland 83. Martin's move from East Germany into a Western military identity makes ordinary conversation a test of what he knows and what he might reveal. The style is brisker and more pop-driven than Smiley's world. Later 86 and 89 chapters carry those divided loyalties into a changing political landscape.
