Comrades, Almost a Love Story (1996)

Maggie Cheung and Leon Lai play migrants from mainland China whose lives keep intersecting in Hong Kong. Peter Chan makes work, aspiration and popular songs shape the possibilities of their attraction. A major Hong Kong favourite rather than a local obscurity, it is worth seeking out for the way romance registers the pull of changing cities and identities.
