Girls from Ipanema (2019)

A deserted wife stays in late-1950s Rio and sets about opening a music club, bringing women's ambitions into conflict with money, marriage and prejudice. Bossa nova and period clothes provide pleasure without removing those obstacles. The Portuguese-language drama suits a mood for friendship and reinvention with a strong sense of design.
