Happy Valley (2014)

Catherine Cawood's family history cannot be kept outside her police work in the Calder Valley. Across three series, earlier choices return through people whose lives have continued between investigations. Sarah Lancashire makes professional capability and exhaustion coexist. The violence and distress can be severe, but the continuing attention to parenting, grief and practical care gives the consequences unusual weight.
