The Long Shadow (2023)

This British drama about the Yorkshire Ripper investigation puts victims, survivors and families into the frame alongside the police operation. The lives around the case receive attention beyond their usefulness as clues. Institutional assumptions acquire human consequences that the eventual arrest cannot repair. It is upsetting material, handled with an emphasis on those affected rather than the killer's supposed fascination.
