The Philadelphia Story (1940)

Katharine Hepburn's impending remarriage becomes an opportunity to reassess the ideal image everyone has made of her. Cary Grant and James Stewart offer different kinds of attraction, while George Cukor keeps the ensemble wonderfully nimble. The wit works best when it allows the heroine complexity rather than demanding that she remain admirable.
