Mississippi Masala (1991)

Sarita Choudhury and Denzel Washington give a chance encounter in Mississippi an easy physical spark. Mira Nair lets comic family friction reveal histories of migration, racism and colourism rather than treating opposition as a generic obstacle. Its restoration has brought deserved attention; seek it out for romance grounded in a particularly complex meeting of communities.
