William S. Harley

Harley directed motorcycle development while Arthur Davidson built the sales network, within a founding team that also included Walter and William Davidson. From the first sale in 1903 to Harley's death in 1943, engineering and distribution grew together. His contribution helps explain why a lasting partnership needs expertise in the product as well as the means to reach buyers.
