James Gamble (industrialist)
Person
Born
Gamble's soap-making background complemented William Procter's candle trade when they became partners in 1837. Both were still parties to the firm's 1879 partnership agreement. Distinguish the founder from his son James Norris Gamble, who developed Ivory soap: this long partnership also became a family enterprise in which the next generation made important contributions.
