William Procter (industrialist)
Person
Born
Procter brought candle-making to the soap-and-candle business he established with James Gamble in 1837. The two remained named partners in agreements more than four decades later, as younger family members joined. Their case makes the formal structure visible: related trades combined in one business, then a partnership agreement accommodated a growing group of owners.
