The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)
Movie
Released
160 minutes, theatrical cut. The waiting around an outlaw is as important as the robbery: admiration, resentment and the desire to be noticed keep changing the temperature of each conversation. Casey Affleck's watchfulness makes Robert Ford difficult to dismiss, while Brad Pitt lets Jesse's charisma become a form of pressure. The deliberate pace gives a familiar historical outcome the discomfort of something people have to live towards.
