Stree (2018)

The townsmen's anxious attempts to follow supernatural rules make fear and social comedy work together. Rajkummar Rao and the ensemble give Chanderi a convincing rhythm of gossip. Its best invention is the reversal of who feels unsafe outdoors, with the jokes sharpening rather than entirely dissolving the threat.
